What are veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain sheets that fit over the top of the front surface of a tooth. We, dentists, love using porcelain for cosmetic procedures such as veneers, as it’s almost an exact match for tooth enamel and its uniquely translucent characteristics.

Why might I need veneer treatment?

Veneers have stood the test of time – they’re still used in dentistry around the world every single day. Veneers can be used to improve your teeth in the following ways:

• They hide a cracked or chipped tooth.
• They close small gaps without the need for braces.
• They cover a stained or discoloured tooth.

What can I expect during the veneer process?

Veneers can usually be completed over 2 visits.

• Examination to check the health of your teeth. Any underlying decay or advanced gum disease may need to be addressed before treatment.
• Preparation of the tooth to accommodate the veneer once it has been made by the lab. A small amount of tooth is removed, to ensure the veneer is not too thick amongst your existing teeth.
• A mould of your tooth is taken, so we can create the veneer to be a great fit for your mouth in terms of shape and thickness.
• Once your veneer is ready, you can come back into the practice to have it fitted. A special cement and light are used to set the veneer snugly in place so that you can bite down naturally and confidently, and eat the foods you love with ease. We’ll make any small alterations, and you’ll then be ready to show off your new smile to your friends, family and colleagues.
