This fantastic aid allows even the most anxious of patients to undergo the treatment they need, and can even serve as a means of improving confidence.

What is sedation?

Sedation has relaxing and anti-anxiety effects, helping patients to have treatment without feeling overwhelmed. We offer both IV (intravenous) and oral sedation and the practice and we will ask you some questions to help us establish which may be best for your particular needs.

As oral sedation is less fast-acting than IV sedation and not as powerful, patients with extreme dental phobia may wish to opt for the latter.

How does IV sedation work?

IV sedation is administered directly into a vein using a cannula (a very small needle) and produces a relaxing effect. You can expect to feel relaxed and drowsy once the sedation takes effect, but you’ll still be able to communicate with your dentist throughout. After a procedure is carried out under sedation, you’ll need to be chaperoned for 24 hours post procedure.
