Dental hygiene is incredibly important for keeping your teeth in tip top shape.
You’d be amazed at the number of adults in the U.K who have never even visited the hygienist, putting them at increased risk of gum disease and potential tooth loss. Visit us at Earley Dental Practice for excellent oral hygiene care and a preventive approach to keeping your gums disease-free.
What are hygienist appointments?
Hygienist appointments differ from dentist appointments, focusing on the health of your gums. Overtime, plaque builds up on your teeth as a consequence of ineffective cleaning, and consumption of sugary and acidic foods and, without removing this plaque, you are susceptible to early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) and advanced gum disease (periodontal disease) in the future. It’s a cliché, but with your gum health, prevention really is favourable to cure, and that’s what hygienist appointments ensure – that problems are prevented.
Every adult should be coming along to a routine hygienist appointment at least once a year, though we may advise attending more frequently if we detect a problem, or if you have a lifestyle that may lead to evolving gum problems. This could be if you are a heavy drinker, use tobacco products, or have some degree of gum disease.
We really enjoy imparting the wisdom we have surrounding oral hygiene so that our patients can apply healthier at-home habits and maintain healthy gums, for life. We always encourage patients to ask questions, whether these are to do with how to brush, the types of toothpaste to use, the foods to avoid or how often to visit.
Here at Earley Dental Practice, we offer the innovative Airflow® Polishing system, which works 3 times faster than a standard scale and polish, removing hard-to-reach plaque and stains. We highly recommend Airflow® Polishing if you’re looking to get the best of your hygienist appointments.
