Just like the name of the treatment implies, bridges actually ‘bridge’ the gaps in your smile and will make things like chewing, talking and laughing a whole lot easier.

What is a bridge?

Bridges work by affixing false teeth to healthy existing teeth and can either be connected to the surface of those teeth, or to crowns if you don’t have healthy teeth on either side of the gap.

Bridges are custom-made for you and the type of material used will depend on the location of the teeth that are missing.

Why might I need a bridge?

Bridges replace missing teeth, which is instrumental for good dental health and indeed, good general health. Even one missing tooth can disrupt how the forces in your mouth are distributed, causing tooth wear and gradual jaw bone loss due to lack of usage and stimulation.

What can I expect from the bridge process?

Typically, a patient’s bridge treatment journey spans over 2 appointments.

• Examination of your teeth to assess the health of your teeth and the supporting structures in your mouth.
• The teeth that will support the bridge are shaped in order to accommodate it.
• A model of your teeth is created and then used to make the bridge and components such as the crowns and false teeth, which will give your mouth back the ability to function well. Whilst the permanent version of these components is made, we will give you a temporary restoration.
• Once your permanent bridge is ready, we can book you in for a fitting appointment and ensure it is a prime fit for your mouth and bite.
